As most of our clients are really asking for a handful of reports and graphs they can’t make with vtiger CRM reporting system we decided to use our knowledge of the available reporting tools to create these reports and graphs without all the business intelligence suite infrastructure.

PRD and BIRT have a nice and intuitive interface in which it is easy to create the report you are trying to achieve, with full graphing support to create simple dashboard reports. BIRT has an easy integration tool (birt-viewer) to launch the reports. Both tools require a clear understanding of the vtiger CRM database structure, so they aren’t end user tools.

We created a patch that permits you to easily integrate into the vtiger CRM reporting page, reports created with BIRT and PRD. With this patch you can have your BIRT or PRD report link right next to your existing vtiger CRM reports, organized in the same folders as your other reports. Simply when you click on the link it will open the report in a new window with the BIRT/PRD reporting tool.

This is an in-house tool which permits us to easily created visually attractive reports. Most people that come asking for Pentaho end up really needing a few graphical reports. This line is a lot much cheaper.

We have also created a plugin which permits us to launch PRD reports to obtain PDF, RTF and Excel outputs. This results in a perfect way to design Invoices and other PDF outputs in a friendly way.
